About baby’s scalp

There are a couple of things to consider when choosing a shampoo. First, baby’s don’t need their hair washed every day. Pregnancy Birth & Baby says, once or twice a week is enough. This is because babies scalps don’t produce a lot of oil at first and too much shampooing could dry your little one’s out.

Choose a simple shampoo that is fragrance-free, that way; it’s less likely to irritate the scalp.

Cradle cap

Cradle cap, also known as baby dandruff, is common in babies. It can appear on their scalp, eyebrows, ears or torso from birth up to 12 months. The Raising Children Network says, “Cradle cap happens if your baby’s skin makes too much oil (sebum).” The extra oil makes it hard for dead skin on the scalp to shed naturally, creating a build-up.

Massaging your baby’s scalp with oil or vaseline before bathing, and washing out with a gentle shampoo can help to gently remove the flaky skin – but don’t force it. Cradle cap usually clears on its own after a few months; however, if you are worried about your baby, see your GP.

How to spot a natural shampoo

Parents are becoming more aware of what they’re put on their baby’s skin, with many turning to natural alternatives. As a result, many skincare brands are producing products made from all-natural ingredients. But how do you know if the products are really all-natural?

The first step to check the ingredients list. With the help of Google, do some research into phthalates, parabens and fragrances, cross checking what you find with your list.

Images can play a part in verifying products too. For example, third-party certifications or seals are a great sign that you product is actually natural or organic.

Don’t forget you can shop baby shampoo in the Tell Me Baby shop.
